Here is an article on Plastic Recycling. If you are a green person - you will appreciate that plastic should be recycled.
Plastic recycling
Almost everything that we see around is made up either of metals or plastic. We have so assumed it as a part of our everyday living that we often don't even notice the fact that the pen we use, the car dashboard, the containers, the soft drink PET bottle and carry bags are all made up of plastic.
But most of us don't even know where we get plastic from. Plastics are generally derived from petroleum which on fractionation gives a lot of products including gasoline and diesel. These are processed and are then called as petro-chemicals because of their origin from petroleum. Plastics which were produced for the first time around the middle of the last century were considered as a boon for the mankind because of their utility and strength despite the fact that they were extremely light-weight. But little did we foresee then that what we considered as a boon for mankind would soon turn into a menace. While noone ever paid much attention to plastic recycling, they soon started piling over on our planet. While industries were busy churning out more and more of plastic, noone understood what the long term effects of not recycling plastics would be.
Do you use printed plastic bags? If so they should be recycleable.
Plastics as we all know are non-biodegradable except for the recently invented bio-degradable plastics. Thus, it means that a plastic toy once broken and thrown out would never disappear into the environment for hundreds of years. Thus while it is useless for us, it becomes a burden on the environment. Plastic recycling can play a great role in protecting the planet from becoming a garbage-bin for storing plastics. The other reason why plastic recycling is important is because if it is burned it gives off poisonous gases like Carbon monoxide which even in small quantities are enough to kill.
Recycling of plastics can be done by melting the plastics in controlled conditions of temperature and pressure in industries and then moulding them into desired shape. Thus, recycling of plastics would not only help us in conserving rapidly depleting petroleum reserves but also by keeping our planet cleaner.
Apart from recycling plastics, we should also try to avoid unnecessary use of it. We should try to use jute or paper bags or recycled plastic bags as far as possible and wherever feasible. Small actions on our part can make big differences to our everyday lives and for the well being of our planet and of course ultimately us.
Plastic Grocery Bags and the Environment - somewhere between 500 billion and a trillion plastic bags are consumed worldwide each year. WOW!
